You've made me think of an example I heard long ago. Someone asked how bank tellers distinguish between real money and counterfeit. The answer is that when you've handled the real thing often and know it well, then you can spot the fake money immediately.

The same applies to our spiritual lives. When we study and know God's Word well, it's much easier to spot deceptive and counterfeit teaching. I don't believe everything about the emerging church movment is bad, but things like "centering prayer" (similar to mantra mediation) do cause me to exercise extreme caution.

Our church ~ Lighthouse Community Church is looking to leave the RCA over several issues where they will not take a stand on scripture. Just recently it came to light that Brian McClaren will be speaking at the General Synod (or some meeting). Truth has taken a beating in this denomination, and they just refuse to see it.

Thank you for sharing these links of the emerging church movement. I think it's important to be fully aware. The Bible warns us about false teachers. It can be all too easy to be led astray and listen to what our itching ears want to hear. But the Bible is the Truth. And God is unchanging regardless if our culture is changing. I think we can engage our world by shining the light of Jesus as we live out our faith.
