Group Topic: Romance
Whoohoo! This is a topic that most women love …
But perhaps we fear it just a little bit too.
At the beginning of a relationship, intuitively, men know that romance is important. But as time goes on, busy husbands often neglect to prioritize friendship, affection, and doing the thoughtful “little things” that bring their wives so much fulfillment. Disappointment can create a host of problems.
Why Modern Women Need Romance
Recently, I’ve been reading about the role an essential hormone called oxytocin plays in women. It’s the equivalent of testosterone in men, and ample amounts are present during pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. Considered the “bonding” “trust” or “cuddle” hormone, this amazing brain chemical is released in other close relationships too, and especially when women are affectionately touched.
In women, oxytocin is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. Modern life is very stressful, and busy women need more of this hormone to help them relax. Very high levels of oxytocin give us the feeling of being “in love” and fuels our sexual response. In purely scientific terms, women crave romantic love because it’s a powerful way to raise their oxytocin levels and feel great about life.
