Our Holiday Spending Plan
Ride-the-Ducks is the most amusing, entertaining activity we’ve done in a long time! For his birthday, e-Dad wanted to ride on one of those re-purposed WWII amphibious vehicles that travels on both land and water. We boarded the crowded open van, and bounced around Seattle and Lake Union accompanied by the non-stop commentary of one very clever sea captain.
The captain instructed us to raise our arms and pretend to crank on a slot machine shouting “Cha-Ching!” every time we drove by a green Starbucks awning—which are plentiful in our fair city. (We even drove by the original coffee shop in Pike Place Market.) Quacktastic!
Starbucks has experienced phenomenal success around the globe under the direction of Howard Schultz. A few years ago, when he stepped down, the company began to flounder. Schultz returned to take the helm of Starbucks, and now the company is solvent and growing again. Management matters, a lot.
Cha-Ching!
Like running a coffee roasting company, managing our personal finances requires knowledge, skill, and discipline. Many Christians study the sound instruction offered by Crown Financial Ministries or Dave Ramsey.I’ve learned to be as frugal when it comes to spending and investing our hard-earned cash. For us, Christmas is a time to give a few gifts, but mostly to share warm hospitality. Budget preparation beforehand is our key to a pleasurable holiday—and avoiding "sticker shock" in January.
If necessary, e-Dad and I can trim this down by not sending Christmas cards or getting a tree, and by choosing not to give gifts to each other. Obviously, we can save a bundle if we decide to stay home. I’ve already saved nearly all of our gift allowance from the sale of unwanted “stuff”on Craigslist.

You are so organised! I keep an amount for each child and family in my head and add in what the postage is going to cost, but do not keep up with the rest. Probably should! Thanks for sharing and for hosting!
(PS...the word verification is blesse so I hope that is an indication of how your day will be!)
That is a great plan - and you are way more organised than I am! We have a rough plan in our heads, and have done about half the Christmas shopping already, so I think I will sit down this afternoon and actually write it all down! Thank you for hosting Marriage Monday. Have a wonderful week!
We picked the same sub-topic yet you're more specific on your spending plan. Mine is similar to April, a rough plan and I focus more on the rationale of my plan. But we share the same frugal and practical spending. Thanks for this great topic, e-Mom.
Hugs and blessings!
I'm curious about your two travel expense items. What are they for?
I hope you don't kick me out of the Marriage Monday group today. I couldn't come up with a good post for one of the suggested topics, so I went with the general one instead.
Thanks for your gracious hosting as always e-Mom.
Awesome post.
e-Mom,
Wow, I am feeling the panic. I haven't even begun to think about gift shopping. However, I am traveling to Colorado over Thanksgiving and hope to do some family shopping then.
I love Marriage Monday. I am looking forward to hopping around and ready with our friends. Have a great week. Hugs, Lynn
love your budget list. I too work from a list but didn't feel comfortable posting it for some reason. And then the post I DID end up writing is hopefully not sounding like bragging about giving....sigh..I really hope it comes across as what we choose to do rather than spend tons of money on each other. that was my point anyways!
your travel plans sound perfect...dave likes to wait as well for airline tickets altho for Paris we had to lock in early (and thankfully we did get a better deal cause airfare to Europe went WAY up once we were close to our travel date!). at any rate....have a great time shopping for those special items...i saw someone getting books on your list...one of my fave gifts to give and receive!!)
Great post. I have thought before we should make a list with an acutal dollar amount for each person. I need to do that!
Good post! Love the ending...because it is so true God makes both prosperity and adversity.
Well our season starts in November with two birthdays and doesn't end until the middle of January when we have another three birthdays! That is just in our immediate family...not extended.
So I have to be creative early!
The ride the duck is great!
Have a wonderful trip to see your married child...that is great.
Thank you for not forgetting about me e-Mom! I've been a busy Mama.
I like your ideas. I didn't pick one of the 4 topics exactly either but...I did write on finances.
Be blessed, your Canadian friend
Laurel

I've been to Pike Place Market!!!! So wish I knew you then we could have met up!! Anyway Steve and I put money away all year for Christmas so that we don't need to use credit unless of course we want the points then pay it off each month.
I have already posted my link above but I talked my dear friend into sharing her story on my blog as well - it's great! So pop over there and see Kristi's story:
