But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal5:16 ESV)
Walking in the Spirit and abiding in His love is a choice, and keeps us from sinking into the sticky muck of sinful speech and behavior. Meditating on this verse has also reminded me of bold Peter, who stepped out of the boat and walked across the water to meet his Lord. Now that is faith in action!

The Sea of Galilee was the setting of Peter’s miraculous walk of faith. This summer, I’ve been following Asbury Seminary professor, Ben Witherington III’s blog posts about his family trip to the historic “Lands of the Bible 2010.” Fabulous!
Witherington’s description of the Sea of Galilee begins like this: “Call it a sea, call it a lake, call it Kinneret, the Sea of Tiberias (see John 21), or the sea of Galilee, it is certain a beautiful place, but a sea, by any normal modern definition,
it is not…”

What does "walking in the Spirit" mean to you?

Happy WFW! I enjoyed you picture and words. It is so true... what is walking in righteousness? It is walking in 'right decisions'.
Thank you for the links, they sound very interesting. If I could have a wish fulfilled, I would love to visit the Holylands. It is a long way from Australia though, where I live.
Blessings to you!
Such truth! When I saw the picture I immediately thought of the muck & mire that we can so easily be sucked into.
Walking in the Spirit: Walking with my mind on the Lord - filled with His Word, DOING what His Word commands, and surrendering to His will.
Happy WFW!
Beth
Great photo and verse combination. Happy WFW!
I love that peanut butter looking pavement for the feet to be on...they look like they need to take careful steps.
Walking in the Spirit is an essential state for God to be able to use this body to speak, to love, to care and share with others.
However I am sadly coming to realize that I tend to be more conscious of being in this place when I am doing something like speaking or singing or being upfront in some way....maybe because I know that if He does not do it then it is useless. But that attitude so down rates the rest of my life which if not lived by walking in the spirit is either attempted to be lived in my strength or is just drifting. I have become much more conscious of asking God to go before me with His favor but also to show me those good works He has prepared for the day.
great post!
Walking in the Spirit, to me, means living my daily journey with Him guiding, teaching, talking, leading IF I am willing to surrender all....the close intimacy of going deeper with Him...the fully trusting Him and being attuned to His Will each and every day.also of repenting as soon as we sin or as soon as we are aware of those sinful moments....
Awesome post! That picture just drives the point home.
Great post! I must say like Beth I thought of the places we find ourselves in because we failed to ask God for guidance.
Blessings,
Linda J
What a beautiful illustration of this verse...Walking in the Spirit does take commitment, it IS a choice...it is so easy to "go with the flesh" when the Spirit urges otherwise....
I'm reflecting...this was wonderful...
peace,

Great picture to illustrate the verse! OH, how much joy we will have when we walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh!
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt 6:33
Have a great day!

Amen! May we walk by the Spirit and not in our own flesh. I'll have to go check out the information on the Sea of Galilee. It sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Hmmm...I think walking in the Spirit means being content with His plans for me...for God to be more than enough for me...that's how I am if I'm truly walking in the Spirit.
To me walking in the Spirit means listening to Him about where to place my steps -- it means being willing to go into the dark, scary places if He leads, and relaxing in the open, peaceful places (instead of fretting over the future paths)). It means saying no to fear, selfishness, greed, etc. when every ounce of my flesh wants it. And sometimes it even means saying no to good things because it's the wrong thing at the time.
It's about listenting and learning to be led and to lead when He asks instead of looking for a formula. It's complicated and simple all at once. And it's impossible without God!
Good post.
Hey E-mom,
Love your new look!! I've been reading your feeds, but it's been a long time since I actually dropped by.
What an awesome word, love the picture you choose to go with it.
What a great study, I'm going to check it out.
I've missed Marriage Monday, I'm really, really going to try and join you next month.
Thanks for always serving up some great topics.
Blessings to you my friend♥
A neat picture and verse ~
Good post! Walking in the Spirit means to me, that I have to first quite my flesh!! When I quite my flesh then I can hear His voice and respond. The fruits of the Spirit come to mind and I have to line myself up with His word. Which means I need to be in the word to line up with the word.
Precious Word-Filled-Wednesday Sisters: Thank you all for visting and sharing your profound thoughts. I love your reflections--they give me pause. It's amazing how powerful a single verse of Scripture can be! Love, e-Mom ღ
