Missions: What's the 10/40 Window?

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matt 28:19 NIV)

1.
The 10/40 Window refers to the area of the world between latitudes 10 degrees and 40 degrees north of the equator covering North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Many of the world’s least-reached people live in this area.

2.
Nearly 4 billion people live here, including 90 percent of the world’s poorest of the poor.

3.
It is estimated that 1.6 billion of these people have
never had the chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

4. The seat of every major non-Christian religion—Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism, Atheism, and Sikhismis headquartered in the 10/40 Window.

5.
In many of the 67 countries represented in the 10/40 Window, witnessing the Christian Gospel means death.

6.
Truly, the 10/40 Window remains the darkest and most inhospitable territory to the cause of Christ and represents the greatest remaining stronghold of Satan.

7.
Two-thirds of the world’s population (4 billion) live in the 67 nations of the 10/40 Window.

8.
95% of the people are unevangelized.

9.
90% of the people are the poorest of the poor, averaging $250 per family annually.

10.
43 of the 50 worst countries in the world for persecution of Christians are here.

11.
Illiteracy is widespread.

12.
Terrorist organizations and child prostitution run rampant in many of these nations.

13.
Horrific abuse of women and children remains unchecked.

It is OUR commission...It's what we are called to do. What a powerful reminder. May we not turn away from the window but see it and move as the Father would have us move...

peace to you today...

Other than Canada, I've never visited another country. I am active on our church's mission committee, though. As one of the members of our committee says, the mission of the church is missions.

Both my husband and I have -- we have been to Cyprus, Mali, Japan, Nepal, Qatar...all very poor. If not economically, for the love of Jesus Christ.

My brother ministers in the 10/40 window. We've sent many people there. I've been there 3 times. It will grab your heart! Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day!

Hey E-mom,

Thanks so much for spreading the word about the 10/40 Window.

My son personally witnessed all the facts you shared first hand in his travels.

God has a plan for these people, He just needs people like us to share the hope we have and support those who do.

Blessings to you this WFW♥

PS Loved the graphic you choose!!!

That's what He told us to do. Praying that we will be used as His laborers for the harvest ~

Wonderful WFW! Our family takes the Great Commission seriously, especially reaching the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I grew up in one of those countries, Thailand. We support native missionaries in the 10/40 window through Gospel for Asia (www.gfa.org).

So much of this area is desert in both the agricultural and spiritual sense. May the gospel that goes out over TV and radio into these countries have the wings of our prayers under it...
I have stayed a month with Missionary friends in Manila in the '70's and now have a Compassion child there which is such a joy.
If you have never asked God about having a Compassion child please do so ..it is such a precious thing to do.

I'm tender to the 10/40 window I love missions and I love missionaries. Way back I was challenged to pick a country and pray specifically for the missionaries there - so I did some research to find the most un-reached peoples group (at the time) and that's when I found my Lampung people's group situated in Sumatra - I tracked down a missionary who ministered specifically in the area that they are situated and I get their prayer letter - I feel like that tribe is mine lol One day I truly hope that I will be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the Lampung tribe and worship with them on THAT day!

I'm also partial to the 9 to 5 window - especially in Canada as I find the world lands right here - we've got our work cut out for us :)

Wonderful post xx

Shelley: Your remarks are fascinating. Who challenged you to pray for the Lampung? Was it in Bible school or at church? (Or other?) Maybe you could blog a little about these people so the rest of us can understand them too.

I like your 9 to 5 window... a well-coined phrase. Yes, Canada needs you. I'm so glad you're there, Shelley!

(((Hugs)))

There are also lots of developed countries which are very secular and have lost so much by turning away from Jesus' teachings. :(
