Art Activity for Kids (or Grown-ups)
Posted by e-Mom. Follow me on Twitter. Subscribe in a Reader Autumn has officially arrived and damp, overcast weather will soon drive all of us back indoors again.
So long summer! This easy art activity can fill your childrens' afternoons with hours of pleasure. You might even discover that visual journaling gives them a new language to express bottled-up, hidden emotions.
Elementary school art teacher, Kathy Barbro at Art Project For Kids offers specific instructions for creating each of the journal entries illustrated above. At this amazing website, you'll find a total of 18 idea pages, with scads of additional art activities for kids as well. I subscribe to Kathy's RSS feed, just to enjoy her daily entries. Art Therapy
Visual journalling can be used in therapy. If you're in emotional pain, and need help finding a Biblical counselor or therapist, I recommend that you contact Jan Parrish at Bold & Free Ministries. Jan specializes in Abuse, Post Abortion Syndrome, Grief Counseling, and Care-giving support.

Are you doing anything creative today?

to bake Challah bread.)

I don't have anything creative in mind today. Working at work and then working at the marching band/football foodbooth isn't going to leave much time. But, earlier this week I made a superhero cape for my nephew for Christmas and I'm tweaking a story I've written so that I can enter it in a writing contest.
I have bookmarked this site and look forward to sharing it with homeschool buddies who are looking for interesting art lessons.
I'm ashamed to say that lately my life has gotten so busy that I haven't been nearly as creative as I used to be!
Though I'm not too creative today, the girls and I will be working on a creation "quilt" over the next few weeks as we study the 7 days of creation here at home.
I recently joined a Christian writers group and hope to meet up with them soon so I can work more diligently at getting my writing project finished up. (It would be nice to do this before the girls head off to college!)
I love visiting you! There's ALWAYS something fabulous here!
Aren't they beautiful? I think we all have the ability to be artistic and creative but it doesn't seem to be encouraged by society these days. You're supposed to leave it to the experts. I think the closest I get to being creative at the moment is my blog.
I LOVE THIS!!! and am already starting to do this in bits and pieces with my wee ones.
shiloh loves it!!!!! i think i've passed on my creative gene to her.
and re the question you asked at the bottom of your post...YES! i finally carved out a corner in our basement that is MINE MINE MINE!! meaning...i can set up all my craft STUFF and leave it and add to it making it one gigantic pile of loveliness (aka mess). right now i am crafting several different projects in order to get ready for 1. craft sales 2. birthdays 3. christmas !!!!
xo
I love the visual journal you talked about. Thanks for sharing the link to Kathy Barbor's site.
Creative thing I'm doing? Does making whipped cream to top the sweet potato pie count?
Art therapy is awesome! i took a workshop in that for part of my special education training after my grad work was done..I used it in the classroom and the little 3-5 year olds LOVED it..it taught me alot about what they were dealing with too!
thanks for sharing this.....I got your msg about reading the working wives post..will get to that later this week, I promise!!
April: Wow, you're really getting into creativity in a big way... a superhero cape AND a story. Good for you!
Andrea: A dreation quilt? Fabulous. I hope you post photos on your blog. So what's work in progress? A book? :~D
Buffy: Blogging is indeed a creative endeavour. At least I think so. But you're right, creativity "doesn't seem to be encouraged by society these days." Let's change that!
Roo: You're UBER creative my friend. I love all the projects you post on your blog. Always a joy to visit. And now you have your own creative corner. HOW wonderful. Nice to be able to have some fun, leave a mess and walk away...
Jennifer: Of course! Homemade sweet potato pie? I'll be right over. :~D
Faith: I love hearing about your educational background. I would love to take an art therapy class or two. Yes, effective with young ones (or men) with limited verbal skills for expressing feelings. :~D
Oh, how interesting!!
I wish I could draw like that.
I'll share this also with a friend of mine.
Thanks E-mom!
Susan: Thanks for sharing this post with your friend. :~D
