Marriage Monday: Is There Any Hope for Marriage?

Introducing the Marriage Monday Meme
Written by e-Mom. Follow me on Twitter

Commitment has kind eyes. He wears sturdy shoes. Everything is vivid when he is around. It is wonderful to sit and have lunch in his gardens around harvest time. You can taste in the vegetables that the soil has been cared for.”—J. Ruth Gendler

Marriage is a hot topic these days. You've probably seen articles all over the web that question its relevance. For example, why not just move in together?
Is a life-long relationship really possible? Should same-sex liaisons should be legalized? And then there are issues like “serial monogamy” (multiple divorces/remarriage), celebrity break-ups, work-place affairs, cyber-pornography, mail-order brides, and human trafficking.

It’s enough to drag us down,
down,
down.

Fortunately, as Christians we can turn to Scripture for hope. Male and female were God’s idea in the first place. The Bible’s truths can help us create a satisfying marriage if we’re willing exert the effort to study, learn, and apply them.

First Monday Every Month at Chrysalis

Once a month, we gather here at Chrysalis as a community of married Christian women for the purpose of encouraging other, sharing our stories, and learning from our collective biblical wisdom. We’re young, old, seasoned, and newlywed and we love talking about marriage!

Today is Marriage Monday: Open Topic

Today, you’re invited to join us for the Marriage Monday meme.
Usually, we write on a specific aspect of married life (like joy or friendship), but today our topic is wide open. Please consider posting your thoughts on whatever facet of marriage is on your heart. You can publish a short piece of prose or a poem, a video, a song, a joke etc. Then leave your link here in the comment box. Afterward, take a few minutes to visit some of the other commenters.

(Update: Delightful! We have more participants today than I expected. I'll put up Mister Linky next time, for sure. Thanks again
for joining us. Love, e-Mom)

"Girl Talk" is Next Month's Topic

Please mark your calendar for August 31, 2009 for our next topic, “Girl Talk: Mothers & Daughters Talk About Love.” To avoid vacation conflicts, we’ll be meeting the week before Labor Day.

In your next post, you can
expand on one or more of
these ideas:

• What are you teaching your daughter about love
and marriage?
• What was your mother’s best marriage advice to you?
• What valuable truths have been passed on by your mother-in-law?
Where can daughters go for counsel when Mom is unavailable?

I have contemplated sharing this here and then decided that there is NO BETTER PLACE to do so!

My topic for the month is heavy on my heart because upon returning from vacation yesterday, I was blind-sided with news that one of our childrens' marriages is in severe trouble!

Please pray for their marriage: that our daughter would open her heart once again to her husband, that she would not continue to listen to un-Godly advice and that she would return to the Lord and allow Him to work in this situation. Our SIL is willing, she however appears to have her mind made up and has stated that she wants a divorce. (They have met with our Pastor twice already unbeknownt to us)

Please do NOT mention anything specific in my comments as she reads my blog and I do not feel that this is the time to let her know that others have been asked to pray for them.

Needless to say this is breaking my heart and I am asking for wisdom and guidance for Dave and I as we talk with her this evening.

I know that I can share my heart here and I am grateful for your intercession!

I know, I know...I said I was all excited and then didn't post anything...but I just couldn't get it together on a "free topic"...I'll do better next month with a topic to focus on. Too broad is hard for me. Sorry!

BIG hugs 'n prayers,
