“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Prov 31:8-9)

by Robin at PENSIEVE
Poverty is a wicked assault that seeks to strip away the dignity of those in its path. January 26, 2009 is a significant date to me; it's when Shaun Groves called me for the first time to discuss the possibility of me joining him on the next Compassion Bloggers trip.
While there's an entire level of insanity for me to leave my husband and children to go, observe and write about a people I don't even know, it was never even a question I had to ask myself. I said it to him, and in the ensuing months, over and over again to others, "I can think of no better reason to write than to lend my voice to those who have none of their own..." [See Prov 31:8-9]
Look at these kids—they have hope! Compassion kids are different, you can see it in their eyes (it's always in their eyes...). We visited four different projects this week and I could see joy...peace...hope in their countenance, something that was noticeably absent in street kids or those wandering villages. If you've finally reached the tipping point and are ready to sponsor a child in need and release him from indignity of poverty, please click here and you'll meet children who are waiting to hear from you. At least click through to learn more.
It might just be the first move in a domino effect that breaks the cycle of poverty in a family forever...
because young girls and old women shouldn't have to bathe in the streets.

Thanks for sharing. Nice verse... it's a great reminder to love the people around us, especially the poor and the needy. Happy wfw!
Bless you for sharing this.
Something we all need to be about! Helping those who cannot help themselves!
Makes you realize that the "poor" in our country aren't really poor by the world's standards. We are a spoiled people.
Wow that is powerful! Thanks...this whole Compassion tour has been fascinating and awesome!
Well done.
Happy WFW and blessings.
Thanks E-mom for posting this. I love the scripture you used.
Truly there is a great big world out there and so many in need.
Unless you leave the US and visit a third world country you'll never truly understand the needs, the poverty and what beautiful people are out there.
They are just like you and I, they experience the same feelings, pains and joys we do.
Pictures don't come close to justify the experience or what these bloggers saw.
I'm just blessed they went, and now their lives will never be the same. Mine has not.
Blessings♥
that is one of my favorite scriptures... the Lord's deep love for the poor and powerless of this world is something we tend to lose sight of in our country, i think.
i believe i have heard of the compassion bloggers trip before... and i am feeling a twinge or two of envy that you'll be able to go, lol. i hope you'll keep us informed every step of the way with lots of pictures and thoughts☺
blessings to you today♥
thanks for posting on wfw
How convicting! I just want to bring them all home with me. This brings to mind Brandon Heath's song Give Me Your Eyes. Happy WFW to you.
Thanks for that Word to us today.
A fantastic verse! We all can do a better job of caring for those in need.
I'm thankful for those God has led to travel to foreign places as His hands and feet. I'm not able to travel to do so, but I can certainly pray for the ambassadors God has sent to accomplish His work!
What a wonderful verse, something that is also a wonderful reminder.
Have a blessed day.
Thanks for sharing the Scriptures and the post. We are very very spoiled here in this wonderful country of ours, that is for sure. ALso, did you know that Delia's (a teen/young adult store for girls) sells certain Tee shirts where they will give $5.00 to Compassion International if you buy that particular Tee? I just ordered a great one for my 15 year old about how everyone deserves a life. something like that. It seemed very pro life and proceeds to to Compassion Int!!
That is one of my all time favorite verses. And I love the photos you've chosen to go along with it... makes me think of my friend Sarah in India...

Happy Word-Filled-Wednesday my sweet bloggy friends! :~D
Ohhh, what a surprise to see you posted this! I'm honored you'd choose to do so for your Word-filled Wednesday :).
You've blessed me with your prayer, support and now this. Thank you is such a small word that encompasses so much heart and gratitude.
Thanks, too, to your kind commenters; those who have a heart for Compassion and others blessed my socks off times ten!
Love you :).

A fine topic. We sponser a child in Kenya through Compassion.
Recently we watched the film "Slumdog Millionaire" which is about some poor orphan children in India. They had no protection whatsover, no one cared, there were too many poor people living in slums already...so they were open to the most terrible explotation. It's good to know these children sponsered by Compassion are accounted for!
