Random: What Keeps You From Commenting?

Welcome Silent Readers

Like most bloggers, I really enjoy the conversational dimension of our medium. When you leave a comment here, I try to respond to you with a few thoughts of my own. The sense of community that has grown at Chrysalis over the past three years has been a surprise and a delight.

But I also value, appreciate, and respect the readers who chose to remain silent. That’s mainly because I enjoy being a silent reader too.

7 Reasons Why Sometimes I Choose to Stay Silent

• I don't have time to leave a comment.
• I enjoy savouring what's been said before participating in the discussion.
• Some blog posts don't need any further remarks; they're complete in themselves.
• I don't agree with the author's point of view and I don't want to offend them.
• There are already a lot of comments, and anything I might add would be redundant.
• It's a new blog to me, and I'm still trying to get to know the author.
• I'm a subscriber, and I read for the great content but not for the discussion.

If you're a silent reader like me, what that keeps you from commenting?

If you're a silent reader here and wish to remain so, I understand. Read in peace.

If I do not comment on a blog or post, it's usually for one of the reasons you posted. Or the blog is so busy and huge that my comment would get lost in the mix anyhow and wouldn't be missed. :) For the blogs with smaller readership (relatively, of course) I'm trying to comment more and more, and likewise, try to usually always reply to comments on my blog. With posts that require more thinking and "chewing" on the subject matter, I might not post a comment right away, intend to come back, then I forget. All unintentional. :)

Uh oh, I got stuck in the middle of your list. Offending e-Mom? Unthinkable! My paranoia has kicked into full gear now.

If I don't comment, it is usually for one of the reasons you mentioned. One more is that, if I have commented on a particular blog many times, and never, ever receive a response, then I usually stop commenting, or at least not as often. I don't mean to sound tit for tat -- I don't comment just to get a response. But this usually happens with more well-known bloggers who get scores of comments no matter what they write about. I understand -- I can imagine it is be hard to keep up with so many commenters. But, as you said, blogging and commenting is interactive, and when it is one-sided, that conversational aspect is lost. So those kinds of blogs I just enjoy reading.

though the reasons can change depending on the situation.

Tara: Thanks for commenting, my friend! Sadly, I do this too:

With posts that require more thinking and "chewing" on the subject matter, I might not post a comment right away, intend to come back, then I forget. All unintentional.

A woman Found: Thanks for taking the time to say "Hi" today. I appreciate it. :~D

Tami: Thanks for stopping here today. You're DA BEST! Love you. :~D

Barbara: Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment here today. I have to admit, I do the same: if I have commented on a particular blog many times, and never, ever receive a response, then I usually stop commenting, or at least not as often. We really do love the interaction, don't we? :~D

Roo: Shabbat shalom to you too, Roo. Thanks for leaving a comment today. Love you!

I think for me sometimes it's a time issue. Either I don't have time to read or I don't have time to comment. Sometimes it is difficult to find the balance between blogging and real life responsibilities.

There are some that I always read and comment and some that I only get around to occasionally. But I am so thankful for the friends that blogging has brought my way. I am not sure what I would do without them now.

When I first start blogging I felt like I needed to leave a comment to every post I read.

Now, because of time I don't.

I do appreciate all the kind comments people leave me, so I like to bless and encourage others as well.

Thanks for being such a blessing to us all E-mom♥
