Relationships: 13 Conversation Starters

Questions You Can Use To Move to
Spiritual Things

1. People invest time and energy into developing their career, their bodies and relationships, but often neglect the spiritual dimension of their lives. How do you actively pursue spiritual growth?

2. We've never had a chance to talk about your religious background. Where would you say you are in your spiritual pilgrimage?

3. What is your concept of God? Do you view Him positively or negatively?

4. Do you find that faith and spiritual values play a role in your (day) (marriage) (perspective on life)?

5. If you could be sure there is a God, would you want to know Him? Or if you could know God personally, would you want to?

6. Do you go to church? Why or why not?

7. Is church something that has had an influence in your life? Are you at a point now that you want church to be a bigger part of your life?

8. How do you think someone becomes a Christian?

9. What do you think about when you go to sleep at night? (If anxiety or guilt rob them of sleep, introduce the peace found in a relationship with Christ).

10. Most people in America say they believe in God. What does believing in God mean to you?

11. If you were to die tonight are you sure you'd go to heaven?

12. Do you think much about spiritual things?
(This usually leads to conversation about what "spiritual" means—i.e. religion vs. relationship.)

13. We've been friends for quite some time now, and I've never really talked to you about the most important thing in my life. May I take a few moments and do so?

I'm indebted to Christian Women Today for the ideas quoted above. For more information about sharing your faith, and the complete list of 20 questions click here.

Have any of these approaches worked well for you?

Those are awesome starter questions! I've been thinking about these very things when it comes to my extended family. How do I begin to brooch the subject? This list helped me!

To a recovering alcoholic I once asked, "What is your higher power?"

After 6 months of working for myself and some of my Christian friends, she accepted Christ. She says it was that one question that made her top and question what it was she was worshiping.

Not sure I can picture myself asking some of those questions, but there are a few there I can use.

Good list!

Those are great! I am always looking for conversation starters. I am the worse when it comes to social situations!

I often ask what church someone goes to. That is easy to use here in the south. That opens the door for discussion.
Much love to you!

Thanks E-mom!

I really needed these awesome ideas. I've befriended a Hindu woman in my neighborhood.

She called one day to tell me she wanted to end her life, she was depressed.

We talked a long time that day. I'm now spending time with her and her children each week.

These are some great questions to lead in to other things I want to share with her.

I'm believing God for her salvation, please pray with me too.

Blessings♥

Kim: Great... I hope these questions are helpful with your extended family. :~D

Carol: Awesome question for an alcoholic... "What is your higher power?" (I'll keep that one in mind.) PTL that your friend came to Christ as a result.

Angela: I've used that one too... "What church do you go to?" It opens doors, for sure. :~D

Susan: I will pray for your Hindu friend. I know your regular outreach is soothing to her, and is speaking to her heart. Bless you both!

Love this list! Great for some unsaved family members. I'll have to tuck this one away.
