Pumpkins Three Ways

Works-For-Me-Wednesday

1. Pumpkin Spice Lattes

1 level tablespoon pumpkin puree
1 cup milk
1/2 tablespoon light brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg (+ a pinch for dusting later)
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 cups strong coffee (or espresso)
4 tablespoons Coffeemate creamer
4 to 8 teaspoons of granulated sugar
Whipped cream

Begin brewing the coffee. In a blender puree the milk, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar and vanilla. Pour into a small saucepan and cook over low heat until the milk is warm and begins to froth slightly. (About 4-5 minutes.) Remove from heat.

For each serving: Pour 1/2 cup of the pumpkin mixture into your coffee mug. Add 2 generous tablespoons of Coffeemate creamer. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add 1 cup of brewed coffee. Add 2 to 4 teaspoons of sugar. Top off with a touch more ‘pumpkin milk’ then cover with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately.

2. Carved Pumpkins Martha-Style

I saw these on beauties on someone’s blog (where?) and I think they’re a beautiful alternative to the oh-so-familiar scary, ghoulish faces. Don’t you?

3. How Much Pumpkin is Out There?

Focus on the Family Magazine has published some interesting statistics. “According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the total pumpkin production of major pumpkin-producing states in 2006 was 1 billion pounds. Illinois led the country by producing 492 million pounds of the orange gourd. The value of all pumpkins produced by major pumpkin-producing states was $101 million.” That’s a lot of gourds!

Great minds are thinking alike today, e-Mom. This morning I'm composing my post about our weekend pumpkin picking trip. In our family, we pick pumpkins and allow the girls to paint faces on them. We also carve pumpkins and then roast the seeds. (I'll be listing a website or two that provides Christian pumpkin carving templates.)

I'm not a big fan of coffee, but I may have to try that latte! It sounds absolutely delicious. I'm wondering if it will work with tea....hmmmm. The pumpkin roll mentioned above sounds yummy too! I love the fall!

Thanks for the wonderful idea. I've never carved a pumkin. But, I'm thinking we are going to do a fleur-di-lis, which represents the Trinity.

GREAT IDEAS! Love your blog!

Yum---the lattes sound great and the MS style pumpkins are gorgeous.
We have a large (fake) pumpkin on dining room table that says Thanksgiving Blessings and has a cornucopia decoupaged on it. We have real pumpkins, 1 medium and 2 small on our porch steps and in my amish wagon as decorations outside.
Happy Harvest!!

I LOVE pumpkins!! This time of the year, I can't get enough. I used to live in Illinois but I don't remember ever seeing a pumpkin patch while I was there!! That was interesting to know they produce more than any other state.

I'm looking forward to Monday! I'll be promoting it on my blog Thursday.

Tjhirst: Oh, wow, that sounds delicious--especially the cream cheese frosting!

Andrea: Now that sounds like a good idea: painting faces on pumpkins. I'd love to see the Christian carving templates. Yes, fall is a wonderful time of year!

Lynn: Thanks for the hug, Lynn. I needed that. A big hug back! :~D

ilovemy5kids: What a terrific idea: fleur-de-lis on a pumpkin to represent the Trinity!
Thanks for stopping by.

Faith: Hey neat. Fun to see harvest pumpkins on the front porch. I did that for a few years, and added wheat stalks too. :~D

Robyn: You will be a wonderful MM hostess! Thanks again. I'll be promoting your site on Thursday too. :~D

Amydeanne: LOL, I'm not a pumpkin pie lover either... but my husband can't get enough. Pumpkin spice cake is the perfect alternative!

Hi emom...So funny I should click on this now because right at this moment, my girls and their daddy are in the next room carving pumpkins on the kitchen table! :)
I'm not big on carving...I prefer the pumpkins ala natural look, but they all like to carve them, so I just tell them not too scary please!

YUM...pumpkin lattes - homemade! I'm going to definitely have to try this!

Hugs,
~Tammy
