News: Spring Reading Thing 2008

Bloggity Reading Challenge

Once again, Katrina at Callapidder Days is hosting her seasonal reading challenge. Already under way, the official dates are March 20 - June 19, 2008. It's not too late to jump in! Those of us Moms who have scads of books hiding under the bed really appreciate this kind of bloggity group activity.
Katrina says:

"Spring Reading Thing 2008 is simply an opportunity for you to set some reading goals, share them with the blogosphere, and work toward them this spring. Perhaps you want to add some variety to your fiction reading. Or maybe you've had very good intentions as far as reading that book on budgeting or marriage or starting a home business, but...you haven't even cracked the cover yet.

Some might want to read more with their children; others might feel guilty for never having read Wuthering Heights. Or maybe you just love to read and want to share your reading list and check out everyone else's. If any of those situations resonate with you, then the Spring Reading Thing is for you!"

Discover much more here. Spotted over at Gold in the Clouds.

e-Mom's Official Spring Reading List

3. Raising a Godly Daughter in an Ungodly World,
by Vicki Courtney

Dinosaur Soup
(and Other Dubious Recipes Written by Children)

This one’s for your kids; so cute I just had to mention it.

Cookbook publisher Martin at
Bob’s Your Uncle
is asking for recipe submissions from children.
"This should be a project without any parental help or referring to cook books, the more instinctive the recipe, the better. The child should not be corrected or advised about any aspect of the recipe, even if measurements, temperature or timing is way off (that’s what we are looking for!)"

More details about this exciting culinary venture can be found at
Design Mom.

Well, I am reading, "The Magicians Nephew" CS LEWIS outloud to the children. Heaven by Randy Alcorn, For the Write Reason-Marybeth Whalen, For Parents Only-Feldhaun, What Your Daughter Isn't Telling You-Shellenberger, Experiencing the Cross-Blackaby.

Okay so why so many, I am not sure, I have a habit of reading many at once. But my only consistent read which is by far the best literary work which happens to be all true is the BIBLE! Oh what a great write! :)

I have a really long list of books too. I love reviewing them on my blog. I've started helping a small library build their books up when I'm done reading them because they just don't have a budget to add to the inventory. I feel great being able to pass on inspirational literature and draw in all ages that way.
Hey, thanks for visiting my blog too:-) I wanted to check yours out--it's very cool!

That sounds like a fun thing to do! I have not been reading as much as I have been getting ready to move.
Thanks for the comment on my blog! I don't know that I have my MIL all figured out, but you know, pretty well as I will be married to her son for 11 years next week!
I will be sure to stop by to read your review of it. It is neat to read everyones!
I just finished One More Sunrise by Tracie Peterson and Michael Landon Jr. It was good, a little different, but good.
The next one on my list is Passionate Housewives Desperate for God and I am reading to my boys The Betrayers Fortune about Menno Simons and the Anabaptists from the Trailblazer series.

Someone just left you a comment on my Appalachian Accent post, come see...it's the latest comment (at the moment). :-)

Oh, Emom - how I've missed you!!!!
So refreshing to come over here and catch up (I'm still working on it!).
A instant 2 year old in the house is wonderfully challenging! We are in awe.
I finished The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun, right before we left for China........wow. Amazing book.
I'd go into it right now, it I had the time - it will have to wait.
I've also started "Vanya" - (christian in Russia)
and a couple of others.......
okay, my time is up!
Love to you ~

I am also doing some spring reading right now. I have a long list and have brought out all the old books as well. I am used to reading at least 3 books at once so I am making sure when I finish one, there is another one that will replace it right away :)

Angela: C.S. Lewis... can't go wrong, can you? I've heard of Heaven, and What your Daughter.. but not the other two.

I always have several books on the go at once too! :~D

Yes, the B. I. B. L. E. ...!

Angela: I admire your generosity. We may be moving in the future, and I have a huge library of books in our basement that we won't be able to take with us. You've sparked some ideas, thanks. :~D

Roo: We should all be aware of the postives and the negatives of the emerging church movment. I hope you read it!

Martha A: I haven't heard of any of your current reads, except Passionate Housewives. I'll have to check the others out! :~D

Jennifer: So how are your Provencal friends surviving the mistral? :~D

Kristy: You're reading two classics that my husband really loves!!!

Glad to have you home. Yippeee! It's been so amazing to follow your story of adoption from China. I'm SO blessed to "know" you and your family. :~D

Sasha: That's the spirit... having several books going at once! :~D

Well, if you're asking...:)

Bible - I've just started 1 Samuel and am also reading through the Psalms.

Fiction - about to start The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox about a rebellious young woman who is locked into an asylum for years by her family.

Non Fiction - Flow The Pscyhology of Happiness - the jury's out at the moment

Christian non fiction - just finished The Lies Women Believe which was certainly thought provoking.

Children's Book - Two Chalet Girls in India

I am reading 3 books at once right now. I no longer read aloud to my 14 year old. We stopped that when she entered 5th grade (she learned to read at age 4) and started reading long novels. I am reading an American Girl Book right now to my 9 year old....a half chapter a nite. We are on the Julie books which make her laugh because she knows mommy was a child/teen in the 1970's! Even she is starting to outgrow wanting me to read aloud though....I love reading outloud to my daughters! (we own most of the books on those lists, too!!)

I'm reading "Dead Heat" by Joel Rosenberg, and "Winter World" by Bernd Heinrich. I am not as well read as so many of your readers, but I try!

Buffy: I like the way you broke your list into categories. You're a reader with purpose! Let us know what you think of Lies Women Believe.

Faith: Lol, I would have guessed that as a teacher, you'd have many books on the go. It's good that you still read aloud. My husband loves to be read to--still!
(He's very auditory.)

Connie Marie: I hope you write a review of your books. They're both new to me. :~D
